Research Focus

Theresa is a research associate at our institute and works on EU- and third-party funded projects. During her bachelor studies at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Theresa already focused on questions at the intersection of technology, politics and law. She was then able to deepen this interest within the LLM program ‘Law and Governance in Digital Society’ at the University of Groningen.

In several internships with civil society organizations in Germany and Myanmar, she gained a practical understanding of the often ambivalent role of digital technologies. In a participatory research project in 2018/19, she investigated the role of social media in the context of the upcoming parliamentary elections in 2020 together with Myanmar youth. Most recently, she conducted a research project on the topic of student data in cooperation with two German schools as part of her master thesis.

Theresa's research interests are digital fundamental rights, especially the right to informational self-determination, the operationalization of law and ethics in AI technology, and the view of young generations on their datafied lives.
