PERIFORMANCE

The Public Engagement in Research Infrastructures for Mission Cancer: Managing Complexity of Emerging Technologies project, known as PERIFORMANCE, is a 36-month long project focused on enhancing stakeholders’ (patients, caregivers, clinicians, researchers and community representatives) engagement in cancer research, as this is essential for advancing the relevance, impact, ethicality, and equity of research outcomes.

Key ethical, legal and social (ELSI) topics include addressing the use of Artificial Intelligence and the European Health Data Space in biobanking within cancer research, with a focus on ensuring that technological advancements contribute positively to public trust and societal well-being.

UNIVIE, through ID Law, is a partner on this project, which has, as coordinator, BBMRI-ERIC, with whom UNIVIE works closely with within the BBMRI.at#3 project. Other partners include Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven) and International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC-WHO).

UNIVIE’s tasks within the Project are spread through Work Package 2 (Regulatory Framework and Comparative Legal Analysis for Stakeholder Engagement in Cancer Research Biobanking), Work Package 6 (Dissemination, Communication, and Training) and Work Package 7 (Project Management and Coordination).

The project’s start date is 1 September 2025 and end date is 31 August 2028.
