An interdisciplinary understanding of energy citizenship: Integrating psychological, legal, and economic perspectives on a citizen-centred sustainable energy transition

We are proud to announce our newest publication within the Horizon 2020 project “EC² - Energy Citizenship and Energy Communities for a Clean-Energy Transition”. The publication examines interdisciplinary understandings of energy citizenship from a psychological, legal, and economic perspective and is published in Energy Research & Social Science. The legal perspective has been developed by Maria Bertel, Iris Eisenberger, Tamara Favaro, Celin Gutschi, Annemarie Hofer and Brigitta Lurger.

The H2020 project EC² aims to provide answers on how to facilitate and strengthen energy citizenship. Knowledge co-creation with municipalities, energy communities and citizens will enhance the research to deliver recommendations that support the EU’s energy and decarbonisation goals. The project develops a clear conceptualisation of energy citizenship and gathers actionable insights into the optimal conditions for it to flourish. The insights gained will lead to policies, tools and practices that will support the sustainable, just, inclusive transition to a low-carbon society with citizens at the centre.

The publication is available as Open Access:  An interdisciplinary understanding of energy citizenship: Integrating psychological, legal, and economic perspectives on a citizen-centred sustainable energy transition
