Research Focus
Ashwinee is a PhD research student at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. His doctoral research focuses on the governance of health data, data protection rights of the patients, both from the perspectives of the GDPR and upcoming European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation, and the scope of health data access body to act as a Trusted Data Intermediary (TDI). Ashwinee also works on the interplay between Blockchain Technology and Interoperability of health data, and the history and taxonomy of data portability. His research interests include the nuances of public interest-based processing of personal data for secondary use purposes in the EU. Currently, he is investigating whether the EU is creating a new data protection right i.e., the ‘right to interoperability’ to boost the cross-border flow of personal data.
Ashwinee is a visiting researcher at the Department of Innovation and Digitalisation in Law at the University of Vienna until September 2024.
