Teaching

Iris Eisenberger conducts research at the intersection of public law, innovation and society and  implements these topics in research-led teaching.

I use innovative teaching methods to ensure excellent education also during times of COVID-19. To this end, I provide, among other things, commented Power Point slides, additional exercise modules, and other materials on the Moodle learning platform. I use live polling and other interactive methods during classes. In this way, I am able to motivate the students to actively participate in the courses.

This lecture prepares students for the module examination Digital Law. It covers the topics General Legal Framework, Legal Tech, Legal Research, Artificial Intelligence and Law, Data protection law, Platform law and Intellectual property rights law. Lectures are given by the lecturers and are accompanied by modern and interactive teaching methods (e.g. videos, polls, discussions), as well as the graphical visualisation of the learning material (e.g. graphics in Power-Point slides).

030250 SE Diploma and LLB Seminar: Innovation and Digitalisation in Law (2024S)

This seminar will be held this semester as a joint course by professors Iris Eisenberger, Nikolaus Forgó, Martin Selmayr and Christiane Wendehorst. The seminar will be held mainly in German, but is also open to (international) students who wish to work and present in English.

The seminar is dedicated to determining the current EU regulations on digitalization (in particular the Data Governance Act, Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act, Data Act, AI Act) in their systematic relationship to each other and to the GDPR. Students will be familiarized with the main features of these regulations and will be able to recognize, formulate and legally discuss relevant legal problems after completing the seminar. Students learn how to conduct legal research, present legal content and defend legal theses as well as write a seminar paper on EU law.

The seminar is held in blocks. Each student chooses a specific topic, presents it and writes a seminar paper on it. Students can propose topics independently or choose from the topics offered..

Die neuen technischen Möglichkeiten nehmen Einfluss auf unser Privatleben und die Arbeitswelt. Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) soll in Zukunft nicht nur standardisierte Arbeitsschritte eigenständig erledigen können, sie soll auch fähig sein, weiter zu „denken“. Der Einfluss von KI stellt das Recht vor neue Herausforderungen: in welchem Rahmen soll die Anwendung von KI erlaubt sein? Welchen Einfluss nimmt KI auf unsere Grundwerte? Ist die KI die Richterin der Zukunft? Diese und weitere Fragestellungen sollen im Rahmen der Vorlesungsreihe thematisiert und debattiert werden.

380036 KU Privatissimum "Innovation and Public Law" (2024S)

The aim of this course is to guide doctoral students in the field of innovation and public law in their academic writing process. The course enables the doctoral students to reflect on their own work and on that of other doctoral students. Additionally, the course provides insights into academic research in the field of Innovation and Public Law. In each session, one or two students will present their work in progress, including exposés, (sub)chapters of their dissertation, or parts from other research projects. Students will have to provide the materials to the course participants three days prior to each session.

030020 PUE Exercise in Public Law (2024S)

The aim is to teach the ability to solve constitutional and administrative law cases in a structured manner. The exercise will be held as a block course in April 2024, therefore it serves in particular as preparation for the FÜM III in April 2024. Contents are Austrian constitutional and administrative law including references to EU law. The method is the discussion of cases.

030114 KU Literature Circle "Law, Innovation and Society" (2023W)

In this course, we will read and discuss standard literature on law, innovation, and society with a special focus on sustainability. Students will learn to identify important work on the intersection of law, innovation, and society, and to critically reflect and discuss this literature. In each session, one student will present and comment on academic work. Students may suggest an article or book of their choice, otherwise they will be guided in finding important and interesting work. Every student presents one paper or book chapter, reads all the literature we are going to discuss in class, and hands in one reflection paper.

030530 VO Comparative Law (2023W)

The course is designed to give students an insight into foreign legal systems and legal ways of thinking and to familiarise them with the methods of comparative law. This is particularly useful as preparation for a later professional activity in an international environment as well as a basis for independent legal research. At the same time, dealing with foreign legal systems sharpens the understanding of one's own law.

In the first part of the course, an overview is given of important legal systems, some of which are formative for the legal systems of other countries. Historical and cultural backgrounds will also be examined in more detail as well as different constitutional approaches. In the second part, individual legal problems from the field of private law, public law and business law are discussed and their respective solutions in the different legal systems are contrasted and compared.

380012 SE Seminar in Public Law for doctoral students (2023W)

The seminar is aimed at doctoral candidates with a dissertation topic in public law. In this seminar, they will have the opportunity to present, discuss and improve the dissertation project. For this purpose, they will submit the draft of your dissertation exposé, present the central research questions and theses in a paper and explain the project in the discussion.

380019 SE Seminar for Doctoral Students ("Socratics") (2023W)

Socratics provide participants with an opportunity to present and discuss their work within their peer group. This not only provides students with an opportunity to practise their presentation skills, but also encourages critical analysis of their own texts. The participation of young scholars from all legal and related disciplines ensures and encourages inter- and transdisciplinary communication within the Ars Iuris Vienna. Socratics sessions are often part of a retreat. The doctoral students regularly travel to Schloss Seggau in Leibnitz (in autumn), to Haus im Ennstal for skiing or to Strobl am Wolfgangsee. As part of the programme in Strobl the Fellows also participate in the Sommerdiskurs.
