RR-AI
Tracing Ethical and Social Aspects of AI-Based Transformations in Healthcare Work and Knowledge Environments
Funding body: Bavarian Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities; thematic focus “Research on Economy and Work” – Human and Machine: Paths to a New Division of Labour
The project “Responsible Robotics”
1) empirically investigates the social, ethical and legal dimensions of two novel AI-based technologies (the service robot GARMI and an intelligent exo-arm prosthesis) during their development and their use in medical practice;
2) develops a practice-oriented toolbox for future AI innovations as well as concrete standards and recommendations for the responsible integration of “embodied” AI into medical work and training;
3) will experimentally test the toolbox as well as the standards and recommendations through interdisciplinary co-creation and workplace integration of “embodied” AI applications.
To this end, the project adopts an innovative “embedded” approach in which ethical, social, legal and political analysis forms an integral part of the design process and the subsequent integration of an AI product in the workplace. The results will be discussed with stakeholders, pilot-tested and widely disseminated.
RR-AI is part of the transdisciplinary consortium “Digitalisierung” (Digitalisation), which addresses questions of digital change in economy and work, politics and society, and media and public communication. The consortium is funded by the Bavarian Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
