ETAPAS
Ethical Technology Adaption in Public Administration Services
Funding body: European Commission
The H2020 project ETAPAS researches disruptive technologies that are intended to be deployed in public administration. ETAPAS aims, together with representatives of public authorities, to develop a framework for the responsible use of disruptive technologies in the public sector.
ETAPAS stands for “Ethical Technology Adaption in Public Administration Services”. The project is coordinated by the Ministero dell'Economia e delle Finanze (Italy) and comprises partner organisations from Italy, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Belgium, Sweden, France and Austria.
The team around Univ.-Prof. Dr. Iris Eisenberger, M.Sc. (LSE) and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Tina Ehrke-Rabel has, among other things, analysed the existing legal framework for the use of disruptive technologies in the public sector (Legal Framework Analysis) and organised a workshop on the legal challenges of disruptive technologies in the public sector. The next steps in the project consist of a Legal Assessment of the various use cases, which include care robots, chatbots and automated fake news detection by means of artificial intelligence.
