We are pleased to invite you to join us on 13. November 2025 for an insightful lecture delivered by our guest speaker, Ms. Deniz Wagner, on "Resilience Rebooted: Defending Media Freedom for Democracy and Security".
The speaker:
Deniz Wagner is an independent expert on media freedom, technology, and security. She is currently a consultant at the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, conducting their work on media freedom, democracy and security. Deniz led the OSCE’s first project on Artificial Intelligence and Freedom of Expression, was rapporteur to the OSCE Advisory Group of Eminent Experts on Freedom of the Media, and author of the OSCE book ‘Can there be Security without Media Freedom?'. She has directed projects establishing independent oversight bodies for the media industry, supported legal reform to enhance media pluralism in Europe, and developed human rights-based guidance to addressing disinformation in the digital age. Previously, Deniz worked in strategic communications, and was a Senior Adviser for Human Rights at the Austrian Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs.
What the lecture is about:
In an era defined by geopolitical tensions, hybrid threats, and the pervasive spread of disinformation, the resilience of democratic societies is increasingly dependent on the welfare of their information ecosystems. This lecture explores how AI technologies have transformed the global information ecosystem, impacting media freedom, shaping public discourse, and affecting democracies’ ability to resist both external interference and internal polarization. How can democracies harness AI to strengthen open societies rather than destabilize them? What safeguards and strategies are needed to ensure that innovation supports, rather than threatens, the democratic order? And how can we build a more robust media and information ecosystem capable of sustaining democratic resilience in the face of evolving challenges? Join us for a timely discussion at the intersection of technology, media, and global security.
The TeamID breakfast lecture will take place in SEM 64 at Juridicum on 13. November 2025, from 9:30 until 10:30. While the session is primarily intended for academic staff, it is not limited to participants from the Law Faculty and we encourage anyone interested to join us.
Registration:
Registration is mandatory, but free of charge. Please register here until the 11.11.2025.
We look forward to seeing many of you there!
