Study visit by the Institute for Law and Technology of Masaryk University

02.02.2023

In February, the Institute for Law and Technology of Masaryk University visited us as part of a two-day study visit on the topic of "Intellectual Property". This inter-university exchange provided a great opportunity to gain insights into mutual research, exchange ideas and concepts, and intensify future cooperation between the two universities.

After a tour of the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna, Professor Dr. Forgó introduced the institute and then gave a keynote speech on the topic of "Who owns the data?" and issues of technological sovereignty. Professor Koukal then spoke about the requirements for precise and objective identification of copyrighted works established by the ECJ in its jurisprudence. Professor Myska discussed the scope of protection for computer programs in the EU.
We had the unique opportunity to hold part of the event at the Kucsko Art Studio of the well-known lawyer Hon.-Prof. Dr. Guido Kucsko. He provided us with insights into the interplay of art, law, and technology and discussed issues related to Artificial Intelligence and its future in IP court proceedings. This was complemented by the presentation of our Art Law Clinic.
There were lectures and stimulating discussions on topics such as unfair competition and copyright claims under the Rome II Regulation, originality of photographic works, personal name as a trademark, CDSM Article 17, and enforcement of copyright on internet platforms.
The study visit on current issues in IP law was a great success and provided valuable insights into mutual research! We look forward to closer cooperation in the future.
