She has particular expertise in this field and is co-editor and co-author of the commentary on the AI Act, published in 2024 by C.H.BECK.
In her presentation, Christiane Wendehorst addressed the regulatory challenges posed by AI systems and the seemingly impossible task of reconciling the needs of AI innovation with data protection requirements. On the one hand, training AI systems requires vast amounts of data, and the EU aims to foster an innovation-friendly environment. On the other hand, the GDPR mandates data minimization and a high level of protection.
As a potential solution, Christiane Wendehorst discussed her draft proposal for an AI Data Protection Regulation. Her draft is available here: Draft_AI_Data_Protection_Regulation_WENDEHORST_24-12-20.pdf
