Fundamental Rights Day 2023 Graz

28.09.2023

Iris Eisenberger participates in a panel on “Steuerung und Regulierung der digitalen Kommunikation. Algorithmen und rechtlicher Rahmen“ as part of the Fundamental Rights Day 2023.

The Section for Fundamental Rights and Interdisciplinary Exchange of the Association of Austrian Judges cordially invites to this year's Fundamental Rights Day on 28 and 29 September 2023 in Graz under the theme "Upheaval - On Belief, Opinion and Facts in Uncertain Times".

We want to address the fundamental right to freedom of expression and information and freedom of the media in a socio-political context.

The event will shed light on the phenomenon of social media as well as the changes in our communication and the way we disseminate, consume, and evaluate news. Targeted information control, for example to influence elections and votes or even court cases, will be a topic, as will be democratising effects through the low-threshold and decentralisation of information dissemination. Furthermore, we will deal with communication in the crisis, looking at "fake news" and national and European regulation of digital communication.

The Fundamental Rights Day is organised in cooperation with the University of Graz and steirischer herbst '23 and will take place at the university's premises (Institute of Law).
