Forum "Data Law" – AI regulation in the interests of society and the economy

January 25 2024 / 17.30 – 19.30

Invitation to the panel discussion

Potential for prosperity and progress (and what we need to do about it). Digitalization has fundamentally changed the way we use and protect data. Today, data-driven innovations influence almost all aspects of our lives, from personalized medicine and modern mobility to the shaping of politics and the provision of contemporary public services. For many companies, data-driven business models are of strategic importance, as access to data and the ability to use it enables innovation and growth.

In 2020, the European Union published its ground-breaking EU Data Strategy, which promotes EU-wide, cross-sector data sharing and creates a true single market for data. Since then, numerous EU initiatives on the regulation and use of data have been launched.

In order to create a platform for continuous exchange between science and practice, we have launched the "Forum Data Law" series of events within the Institute for Innovation and Digitalization in Law at the University of Vienna. Our first meeting entitled "Data Act vs. GDPR - are we creating an innovation-friendly environment?" on October 12 2023 marked the beginning of an exciting journey.

Our next meeting on January 25, 2024 will be dedicated to the highly topical issue of AI regulation. We cordially invite you to join this discussion, which will be moderated by experts from various fields. Together, we will explore the opportunities and challenges of regulating artificial intelligence, always keeping in mind the goal of creating an innovation-friendly environment.

We look forward to your participation and the joint exchange on January 25, 2024. Join us as we shape the future of data law and exploit the potential of data-driven innovation.
