Research Focus

Maha Omar is a legal researcher and PhD candidate at the Civil Law Department, Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University in Cairo. Her expertise in Civil Law is grounded in teaching contracts - including labor and sale agreements, rights and obligations, and liabilities in civil and commercial dealings - alongside practical experience in arbitration and banking. Building on this foundation, her research explores contemporary legal challenges arising from innovative e-commerce and digital business models.

Her doctoral thesis, entitled “The Legal Framework Governing Transportation Services Using Information Technology” examines the regulation of ride-hailing businesses worldwide. She analyzes the classification of agreements between parties, the identification of each of their roles, and the allocation of rights and obligations, as well as the liabilities that emerge under different models. Drawing on European regulatory approaches, she critiques the risks of blanket regulation that may stifle innovation.

Beyond ride-hailing, Maha’s broader research interests include the digital formation of agreements, the governance of gig work and the shared economy, and the adequacy of existing legal frameworks to regulate emerging models. She also investigates the deployment of artificial intelligence in business contexts, with particular attention to safeguarding labor rights and privacy.
