Rafael Nunes has been a postdoctoral university assistant in Professor Iris Eisenberger’s team at the Department of Innovation and Digitalization in Law since March 2026. Before then, he was a Max Weber Fellow and a CIVICA Fellow at the European University Institute (with mobility at the Central European University).
He holds a Doctorate from Yale Law School (JSD 24’), a Master of Laws from Yale Law School (LLM’ 18), a Master of Laws in Public Law from the University of São Paulo (MSc. 15'), and a Bachelor of Laws from the Federal University of Maranhão (LLB 13’).
He specializes in Law and Technology and Comparative Constitutional Law. His research agenda has mainly two prongs: he asks how the challenges of managing digital speech at scale shape the varying regulatory styles and institutional trajectories of national courts and bureaucracies, and he investigates how platform firms engage in regulatory defense and why their venues and forms differ across places.
