The SOLACE (Strengthening the screening of Lung Cancer in Europe) project, funded by the European Union’s EU4Health programme, included contributions from 37 SOLACE partners (33 beneficiaries and 4 associated partners) from 15 different countries, who, for 36 months, were focused on identifying the state of play for Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) in European Union (EU) member states, conducting LCS in select countries, and producing a comprehensive guidelines and implementation packages covering all steps of the LCS pathway.

UNIVIE, through the ID Law Team working on the Project, has been cooperating with partners to achieve the project’s objectives in full compliance with legal requirements and ethical standards. This has included legal compliance tasks, such as drafting a Data Sharing Agreement which has enabled the analysis of data gathered within the project. Research activities were centered around legal definitions such as pseudonymization and anonymization as contained in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the meaning and application of these definitions within the Project. A paper describing the findings of the research activities is due to be published by the ID Law Team in the coming months.

The final in-person consortium meeting, which gathered representatives from the 37 institutions, was held at the Social Hub in Vienna, on the 12th and 13th of March, 2026. It was the final opportunity for partners to meet in the context of the SOLACE project and review the objectives set-out in the previous consortium meeting (more details on that event available here). The comprehensive agenda for the 2-day meeting included updates from the different data gathering pilot projects, overview of dissemination/communication achievements and discussion of dissemination strategies beyond SOLACE.

The ID Law Team would like to thank the project’s coordinator, the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR) for their efforts guiding the project to its end and for the organizational efforts needed to bring the consortium together for a final meeting.
