1st Conference on Innovation and Digitalisation in Law

22.10.2020 09:00 - 18:00

It is our pleasure to invite you to the 1st Conference on Innovation and Digitalisation in Law 2020 on the 22th October 2020.

The conference on Innovation and Digitalisation in Law in 2020 will focus on a pressing issue in data protection law, namely the discussion concerning anonymisation or pseudonymisation, or in general de-identification requirements in the GDPR. De-identification is a core concept under the GDPR since, by drawing the line between personal and non-personal data, it determines the scope of applicability of European data protection law. Additionally, the concept of de-identification is embedded in many obligations in the GDPR, such as part of a "privacy by design" strategy to enhance data subjects' protection. Despite suggesting different levels of identifiability, the text of the GDPR does not clearly establish an identifiability spectrum, creating uncertainty as regards the concrete steps to be followed by organisations to meet compliance. Furthermore, from a technical point of view, selecting and implementing the most appropriate de-identification technique is a complex exercise. It follows that this topic will allow experts from different disciplines and backgrounds to shed light on some of these issues with the aim of attracting a truly interdisciplinary audience. Furthermore, the event will bring together young and experienced experts, both having the potential to make valuable contributions to the debates at both the European and international level.

The one-day event follows a format in which, in addition to keynote speakers, a panel discussion and an interactive session with young academics based on their submitted papers will take place.
